Fort Bragg is well known for its Glass Beach, which is a 20 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) from the Lodge. Glass Beach offers a unique landscape for relaxing, picnicking, and taking in all of what the coast has to offer. The glass has been worn over time to the point that it is all safe and soothing to walk on and the multi-colored glass is a spectacle worth seeing. Glass Beach is just a small part of MacKerricher State Park, which is also a short walk from the Lodge.
Another famous attraction Fort Bragg has to offer is the Skunk Train, which rides into the redwoods and back. They often have special events for holidays and other occasions, which incorporate food and beverages to the already pleasant trip. The train can be enjoyed by people of all ages!
The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are always worth seeing as there is always something different blooming there. The Gardens is a great place for bird watchers as the list of bird species viewable in the area is now over 160! The location is best known for its Rhododendrons, which produce fragrant blossoms.
20 minutes south of Fort Bragg is Mendocino which makes for an excellent day trip destination as they have lots of interesting stores and unique sights to offer, as well as some great restaurants. That said, you don’t need to leave Fort Bragg to enjoy some fine dining! The town offers quite a few options of where and what to eat!
